Episode 93 – Symphonic Metal
Saturday, January 17, 2009Symphonic music and Metal are related and in lots of situations make an excellent marriage or symbiosis: in Black Metal, Power Metal, Progressive Metal, Gothic Metal, … We could do many episodes, but here’s at least one that shows which bands are masters at implementing it into their compositions. In addition, we’ve got an interview with a young master of the art: Anton from Orias. Check this band out, for it’s worth it.

Hey guys. GREAT episode. I used the “contact us” form already, but I thought that by posting something here some other metalcast listeners might be able to help me out. I’m looking for the song by Orias that’s playing in the background just as the interview is starting. And by the way, how do you go about sampling their tracks or buying their music? I”m pretty resourceful, but I’ve just about given up. ❓
Hi Nathan, try contacting the band on Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/oriasband. It seems their normal site, http://www.orias.se, is offline, or the link just doesn’t work anymore. Or Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Orias/96452380268
Great episode! ❗
Really liked the Red Descending track, in particular.
Lot’s of terrific Metal coming from Down Under these days.
❗ great episode almost no one thinks to play symphonic metal
Damn, my comment got lost or something, gotta repost.
Anyway, I’m glad you were joking about stopping! I was scared for a minute there.
I was never a huge Nightwish fan, but man, they suck now. Their new singer looks like Avril Lavine and has no stage presence. Sonata Arctica opened for them and were way better! Depressed Mode was pretty sweet, I’m a huge Depeche Mode fan, I thought it would be a cover of one of their songs, but it was sweet nonetheless.
Good episode. I liked when you guys had the song list at the bottom of the info or the description on the podcast. Any chance of bringing that back? Anyway, metal on!
-Steve
Oh man, I was always quite shocked when you said the MetalCast was over. What will I do at work now?! Definitely got me to post though. Glad you were joking!
I was never a huge Nightwish fan, but man, they suck without Tarja. I saw them this year with Sonata Arctica, and the new singer just looks like Avril Lavine. She had one some teeny bopper dress and had horrible stage presence. A good episode nonetheless. Depressed Mode was pretty sweet, I’m a huge Depeche Mode fan, I was hoping they would do a cover or something, maybe later. Also, I liked the list of songs in the description or info summary on the podcast. Any chance of bringing the song list back? Anyway, metal on!

❗ Episode again.
Haha, sorry about the joking that we were going to end , it was totally unplanned, I thought about that while recording the last hosting file 😆
I am just a couple of tracks in, and I do believe I might have pooped myself! This is an incredible show!

😛 great PR move Marcus, it worked 😀
although I was stunned for a moment myself 😐
Yes, your pleas worked on me as well! I LOVE METALCAST! There, I said it. I particularly LOVED this episode. I love prog metal and this week’s symphonic metal episode was right down my alley! I will admit that the other genres you play have been interesting, too. But, I prefer melodies and harmonies with guitar grooves and hooks in my metal over the more aggressive styles. Power metal is one of my favorites, too. I don’t know what to suggest. You are doing such a damn good job with each episode that I’m usually pleasantly surprised with each one. I’ve been spreading the word. METALCAST FOREVER! Keep up the great work! p.s. Don’t joke about quitting. I about shat a brick and yelled out while listening at work! 😀
Very nice episode! I like symphonic metal more than I thought. 🙂
You really scared me with the “metalcast is over” thing…… 😈 😀
I’d never heard that version of the Dimmu Borgir song. I only have Stormblast 2005, and just assumed it was the same thing, maybe remastered or something.. But I definitely agree, the older one is more magical! I’ll have to go get that older version of Stormblast. I definitely prefer the older production quality for black metal stuff. (Not for everything, but definitely for black…)
Anyway, I especially liked Rhapsody, Depressed Mode, and of course DB. But all of it was quite good.
Thanks again!
loved the interview and Orias’ song! 💡
What’s wrong with Manowar? Everything
😆 😆 😆 ❗
Guys I love you already 😆
Finally after a week I’ve got an excuse to stop listening to H.E.A.T for a little while 😛
💡 ❗
I hope you guys enjoy this EP! ❗
