MetalCast Episode 231

We can keep this simple. Some time ago we got a suggestion from Blake Porter, one of our listeners: a True Norwegian Black Metal or Pioneers of Black Metal Episode. So, we put our two specialists in those domains to the test and they threw some names and songs on the table in a matter of seconds. So, for all you Black Metallians out there, enjoy this mix of Burzum, Borknagar, Arcturus, Limbonic Art, Covenant, Carpathian Forest, Gehenna, Gorgoroth, Hades and Immortal. A varied list indeed and once again not always the classic names. Cheers!

Never been a big fan of black metal but this was a very educational episode! I especially like at the end when Si correlates Hades need more recognition since the founder burned down a church! I know that’s not what you probably meant but that’s how I heard it. And I may have had an inappropriate laugh.

  2. Doc Deckard says:

Sorry for lecturing, but “Burzum” is not a Norwegian word. It is rather a word from a fictional language created by JRR Tolkien (“Black Speech” spoken by orcs and other unsavory things). Its meaning is rendered correctly (“Darkness”).
Thanks for the great show anyway, keep up the good work!

    • Si Smith says:

Hi Doc! What I was trying (incompetently) to say was that in the Norwegian tracklisting the song is listed as “Burzum”, whereas the German tracklisting has it as “Dunkelheit”. Thanks for your comments and glad you enjoyed it!

  3. Crazy Chemist says:

    • Blake Porter says:

See, Ive always seen Mayhem as a band that are only big because of their legend 🙁
