Episode 148 – H. P. Lovecraft
Ah yes, another Special, the kind of episode you all seem to love more than your dearest significant other. This time it was suggested by one of our listeners, Brandon Archer, who spoke the name of H.P. Lovecraft. He was an American author of horror, fantasy, and science fiction and his works inspired many Metal bands to create songs based on or influenced by his works. Cradle Of Filth, Metallica, Draconian, Nile, Rage, Therion and more all have a touch of Lovecraft in their repertoire. Enjoy this selection and if interested, check the man’s books.
Host: Polina
Tracklist: Tim, Marcus, Polina, Judith
01. Dingir Xul – Cthulhu Arise
02. Therion – Cthulhu
03. Frostmoon Eclipse – In the Vault
04. Nile – Von Unaussprechlichen Kulten
05. Rage – Shadow out of Time
06. Draconian – Cthulhu Rising
07. Non Serviam – Which Eternal Lie
08. The Ziggurat – WindWalker

There could be a second one about this.
See the already mentioned above titles but also:
Morbid Angel: Angel of Disease
Nile: What can be safely written
Black Sabbat: Beyond the wall of sleep
Septic Flesh: Lovecraft’s Death
Deicide: Dead but dreaming
Vader: R’Lyeh
Hypocrisy: Necronomicon
Rigor Mortis: Re-Animator
Nile (again yesh!): 4th arra of dagon (actually a lot from Nile)
Morbid angel (also again): a lot from Blessed are the sick and Formulas
Samael: Rite of Cthulhu
Oh yes, Lovecraft has been one of the biggest influence in death and black metal and therefore alone deserves a statue.
But nevertheless, a great episode this one! Nicely done!
You’re right wayreth! There is so much material out there…..
Bal-Sagoth’s “Shackled to the Trilithon of Kutulu” would’ve been a nice addition
too, even though it’s only inspired by and not actually based upon HPL.
Nice job Polina!
Cheers
