Episode 138

MetalCast Episode 138You wanted Extreme Metal, we’ll give you Extreme Metal. Whereas previous episodes had lots of melodic songs, mainly from the Power and Progressive Metal genres, this time we steered clear from them (or as much as possible) and ventured into more dangerous zones, in which our quest was not one of birds and bees. Aggressive vocals, skull-crushing riffing and devastating drums, in snowy and sunny settings, not forgetting a bloody touch as finish. 2009 still isn’t over yet and the scene still provides us with new material. Enjoy, keep that feedback coming and if you don’t know what to buy for X-mas… there’s a noble cause called MetalCast.

    Great moshfest guys.

Nile, Chthonic, Old mans Child – definitely some of the extreme highlights of this last year. As for Nile – they could have easily rested on their laurels and recent good albums and just released an “ok” one with more of the same, but no, they push themselves to create something special and constantly evolving. Almost like a classical symphony in its variety of timings, use of themes and motifs, etc.

Some new ones here too – I enjoyed Ceremony of Opposites, although it was a bit sedate for a death metal song entitled “Severe Carnage” (more like slow, slightly-doomy carnage) but enjoyable nonetheless.

Ramzad – thanks Marcus for the recommendation. It is an interesting mix of styles, although I think I needed 1 more beer before trying to approach this song. It is definitely a good song to play out to.

Another great episode, informative as always and well presented, Kobe. Thank you.
